Eliza Wright Mixed Media Mosses
We have a wealth of mosses, lichens and liverworts growing in this area, furthermore they are most actively growing and visible in the early months of the year, an oasis of colour amid the browns and greys.
This picture was made using a base of calico, topped with a piece of hand-made felt, which was made by a friend. I am glad to report that the friend then taught me how to make my own! A fine cobwebby layer of felt, made from marino wool, provides a really interesting backdrop to an embroidery of anything natural. I did not 'glue' it down, but secured it with a few tiny stitches. As you can probably see, the stitches I used are very ordinary ones, there's a lot of cross stitch and French knots.
