Below is a selection of designs which mostly employ the technique of silk shading. This is, for me anyway, one of the most satisfying aspects of the embroiderer's art. I love using silk shading to portray landscapes,it is especially effective where water is involved and so particularly suited to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland! Silk shading is, I suppose, a perfectionist's art and can take some time to do, but for me anyway the results are worth it.
